Box Score FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The Adrian College women's hockey team set several team records on Friday night as they easily defeated Marian University 8-0 to get their first conference victory. The Bulldogs are now 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in the NCHA.
The Bulldogs got the scoring going early as senior Jessica Grubbs (Woodbridge, Va.) scored unassisted less than three minutes into the game. Sophomore Ashley Chinn (Fort Bragg, N.C.) netted her first goal of the season on a power play at the 15:33 mark of the first period off assists from junior Olivia Rork (Wayne, Mich.) and senior Stacey Kempson (Windsor, Ont.).
In the second period, Adrian scored early and often as they racked up three goals in less than two minutes. Kempson started the scoring at the 6:03 mark netting a power play goal from Grubbs and junior Brooke Zaleski (Toledo, Ohio). Freshman Danielle Smith scored her first career goal 27 second later with Roark and sophomore Ashley Gniewek (Southgate, Mich.). At the 8:41 mark, freshman Nina Laurie (Palatine, Ill.) scored Adrian's first short-handed goal of the season off an assist from Kempson. Rork ended the third period with a power play goal assisted by senior Nicky Futers (Sarnia, Ont.) with about two minutes left.
The Bulldogs were on the prowl in the third period, looking to add to their lead. Rork netted her second goal of the night, on yet another power play opportunity, again from Futers. Laurie also netted her second goal of the night with less than three minutes left in the game on assists from Futers and Chinn.
Freshman Emily Michelin (Highland, Mich.)earned her third shutout of the season in goal while making 12 saves on the night.
For the game, the Bulldogs out-shot the Sabres 61 to 12. The 61 shots by Adrian set a school record for shots in a game. The four power play goals also set a school record for most in a game. The eight total goals, 11 assists and 19 total points all rank second in school history. Olivia Rork's two power play goals and four points each tie a school record. Nicky Futers' three assists tied a school record.
The Bulldogs and Sabres will go at it again on Saturday, November 13 with the puck dropping at 2:00 p.m. est.
