Box Score FOND DU LAC, Wis. – It was another impressive showing by the Adrian College women's hockey team on Saturday and they defeated Marian (Wis.) 4-0, sweeping the weekend conference series. The Bulldogs move to 4-1 on the year and 2-0 in the NCHA.
After getting off the fourth most shots in conference history on Friday night, the Bulldogs return on Saturday with 47, which is eighth best in Adrian history. For the series, the Bulldogs out-shot the Sabres 108-20.
Once again, Adrian scored early and often as freshman Nina Laurie (Palatine, Ill.) scored unassisted four minutes into the first period. Senior Stacey Kempson (Windsor, Ont.) scored her fourth goal of the season 1:31 seconds later off an assist from sophomore Ashley Chinn (Fort Bragg, N.C.). The Bulldogs went into the first intermission leading 3-0 after Laurie netted her team-leading fifth goal of the season midway through the period.
The Bulldogs would be shutout in the second period, the first time that happened during the series. Once again in the third, Adrian came out fast as freshman Danielle Smith (Highland, Mich.) was able to score her second goal of the season at the 3:40 mark of the third. Sophomore Ashley Gniewek (Southgate, Mich.) assisted on the goal.
In goal, freshman Emily Michelin (Highland, Mich.) had a solid performance earning her fourth shutout in five games, making eight saves on the night.
Adrian will travel to Wisconsin-Superior for a two game conference series starting Friday, November 19 at 8:00 p.m.
