LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The men's hockey team has not been as dominant this season after three years of defeating opponents handily, but the bottom line is that they are still winning games as evidenced by a 3-1 win at Lake Forest on Friday (Nov. 19). The Bulldogs had a tough time shaking off the Foresters, but in the end it was a pair of third period goals in the final 4:39 that propelled them to their fourth win of the season (4-1, 4-1 MCHA).
Junior Jordan Watts has been a key addition to the team this season and scored his third goal at even strength at 1:03 of the first period to get Adrian out of the gate quickly. Watts' goal was assisted by Andrew Dovey and Josh Cousineau. Adrian outshot Lake Forest, 13-7, in the first period.
Craig McDowell tied the contest at 1-1 with an even strength goal at 1:15 of the second period with assists from Zak Borowski and Chris Gard. McDowell's second of the year was the only goal of the period and sent the teams into the second intermission tied.
The game was in the balance despite Adrian putting more pressure on Lake Forest with a 15-4 edge in shots on goal in the third. The Bulldogs broke through at 15:21 at even strength as senior Brad Houston scored the game-winner for his fourth of the season. Houston's goal was assisted by Shawn Courtney. The Bulldogs added an empty-net goal with nine seconds remaining as senior Kyle Watson was the lucky guy to seal the win for his first tally of 2010-11. The empty-netter was assisted by Jordan Watts and Quinn Waller.
Brad Fogal has factored into every decision in net this season (4-1) and made 23 saves including 12 in the second period. Adrian and Lake Forest failed to score on the power play both going 0-for-4.
