Box Score SUPERIOR, Wis. – The Adrian College women's hockey team skated to a 1-1 tie in the opening game of their NCHA conference series with Wisconsin-Superior. The Bulldogs record now stands at 4-1-1 on the season and 2-0-1 in the NCHA.
The first period saw both teams take a combine 16 shots, but neither team could put the puck in the net. It was much of the same in the second period, until sophomore Ashley Gniewek (Southgate, Mich.) scored her second goal of the season on a power play opportunity. Juniors Jenna Corbin (Indian River, Mich.) and Olivia Rork (Wayne, Mich.) got the assists on the goal.
In goal, junior Emily Engel (Mentor, Ohio) made her season debut getting the start for the Bulldogs. Engel allowed her only goal when the Yellow Jackets scored at the 2:19 mark of the third period to score the equalizer and finished the game with 24 saves.
Neither team could net the game-winner in the five minute overtime period, resulting in Adrian's first tie of the season.
The Bulldogs out-shot Superior 27-25, with freshman Danielle Smith (Highland, Mich.) leading the way with a game-high seven shots on goal. Roark followed with six and fellow junior Brooke Zaleski (Toledo, Ohio) had four shots on goal.
Both teams will back at it again as they close-out their two-game series on Saturday, November 20 at 2:00 p.m. cst.
