Women's NCAA Ice Hockey

Rork Nets Game-Winner with 3 Minutes Left to Beat Wis.-Superior 4-3

SUPERIOR, Wis. – In a battle of top teams in the NCHA, the Adrian College women's hockey team was able to come away with a key win as they defeated Wisconsin-Superior 4-3 on Saturday. With the victory Adrian improved their record to 5-1-1 on the year and moved them into third in the conference with seven points (3-0-1).

It was Adrian who scored early and often as they netted the first three goals of the game. Sophomore Ashley Gniewek (Southgate, Mich.) netted her third goal of the season while Adrian was shot handed with about 5 minutes left in the first period. Senior Nicky Futers (Sarnia, Ont.) and junior Olivia Rork (Wayne, Mich.) assisted on the goal. Senior Jessica Grubbs (Woodbridge, Va.) scored her second goal of the season in the second period off an assist from junior Brooke Zaleski (Toledo, Ohio). Jenna Corbin (Indian River, Mich.) a junior, rounded out the Bulldogs scoring in the second period as she netted her first goal of the season from Gniewek and freshman Danielle Smith (Highland, Mich.).

The Yellow Jackets scored their first goal only 23 seconds later. Wisconsin-Superior added a goal about a minute into the third period. At the five minute mark of the third, the Yellow Jackets were awarded a penalty shot and connected on the equalizer to knot the game at 3-3. At the 16:30 mark, Roark scored the game-winning goal, her fourth of the season, as Gniewek had the assist.

Emily Engel (Mentor, Ohio), a junior, made her second-consecutive start allowing the three goals while making 16 saves in the win.

The Bulldogs will take the holiday week off as they return to action on Saturday, December 4 at 7:00 p.m. as they host NCHA opponent St. Scholastica.
