ADRIAN, Mich. - Senior quarterback Mike McGee tossed three touchdowns surpassing the Adrian College career record (45) on Saturday in a 33-7 win over Hope College at Performance Stadium. McGee now has 47 career touchdown passes and holds five school records in career passing categories. Junior running back Jared Edwards supplied the running game to balance the pass as he carried 33 times for 248 yards and two scores. He has now rushed for three 200-yard games this season and 1,013 yards marking the fourth time since 1990 that a player has rushed for over 1,000 yards in a season at Adrian.
Adrian defeated Hope for the third straight year by having a balanced offense and stingy defense. The Bulldogs (4-5, 3-2) gained 500 yards on offense and gave up just 191 yards. Adrian ran the ball for 289 yards and threw it for 211 yards. McGee was 12-of-23 for 160 yards and Edwards even completed a halfback pass for 51 yards to Mitch Gabriele setting up Adrian's second touchdown in the second quarter. Edwards scored on an eight-yard run in the second and a 79-yard scamper in the fourth.
D'ante Thompson got Adrian on the board at 4:22 of the first as McGee found him in the back of the end zone for a leaping grab from 27 yards. Edwards gave Adrian a 14-0 lead at 11:02 of the second with his eight-yard run. Hope cut the lead to 14-7 just before halftime as Kyle Dietrich caught a four-yard TD pass from Chris Feys with 50 seconds to go in the first half.
It was all Adrian in the final 30 minutes as Justin Hemm caught a five-yard TD pass from McGee at 10:56 of the third to push the lead up to 21-7. Gabriele followed with a 21-yard TD grab from McGee at 2:35 of the third and the PAT attempt was blocked making it 27-7. Edwards rumbled 79 yards at 4:53 of the fourth for the final score of 33-7 after another PAT was blocked.
Gabriele went over 100 receiving yards for the third straight game with 115 yards on six catches. Hemm caught four passes for 44 yards. Jarred Kwiatkowski led Adrian with eight tackles.
