Women's Bowling

Bowlers Finish 7th at AHIBC #2

MONROE, Mich. - The women's bowling team finished 7th out of 17 teams in the second American Heartland Conference tournament held at Nortel Lanes in Monroe, Michigan on Saturday. The team was led by sophomore Kristen Marcis with an average of 167.2 and finished 22nd overall for the tournament. Freshman Jessica Stamper also had a good tournament, averaging 160 for four games. Stamper finished strong shooting a 230 her last game, which is the highest game bowled so far by anyone on the team this season.

The team continued their trend of starting strong during the baker game portion of the tournament shooting a season-high baker game of a 225 stringing seven strikes in a row to finish the game. They would end up shooting a 585 for that three-game baker set. The team continued to do well throughout the baker games and as a result their baker game average was 11 pins higher than their team game average.

"I was really happy with the fact that the team placed four spots higher than they had finished in the first conference tournament," said head coach Jody Fetterhoff. "It really shows how much they have improved since the first tournament of the year, in which they faced the same teams.  We bowl in a strong conference which contains four teams - Wright State University, Davenport University, University of Northwestern Ohio and Notre Dame College - that all are ranked in the top 20 in the nation. Bowling against such good competition within our conference is great for the team. It strengthens our confidence, because we compete against these other strong programs so often."

Adrian is currently ranked 32nd in the nation and two other conference teams, Youngstown State University and Grand Valley State University are also ranked in the top 35.
