Box Score ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College women's hockey team scored nine seconds into the game as they went on to defeat NCHA opponent St. Scholastica College 3-0. The bulldogs are now 6-1-1 on the season and 4-0-1 in the conference.
Senior Stacey Kempson (Windsor, Ont.) scored nine seconds after the opening faceoff on assists from Jenna Corbin (Indian River, Mich.) and freshman Amanda Gay (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.). Adrian dumped the puck into the Saints zone after the faceoff, which resulted in a scrum in the front of the net. Kempson was able to poke the puck through the Saints goaltender Rachael Borchardt. The goal was Kempson's fifth of the season, as she has now scored in every game she has played in this season.
The nine seconds it took Adrian to score was a team record, however it was not a national record. That may have occurred during the NCAA DIII tournament in 2003 (seven seconds). However, the NCAA does not keep fastest goal as record for the regular season so it is unknown if the Bulldogs set a record for a regular season game.
Freshman Danielle Smith (Highland, Mich.) netted her third goal of the season at the 11:49 mark of the second period off a pass in the front of the net from junior Brooke Zaleski (Toledo, Ohio). Smith would add an empty net goal with 18 seconds left in the game to seal the victory for Adrian.
Freshman Emily Michelin had another outstanding performance in goal, turning away all 21 of the Saints shots. Michelin earned her fifth shutout of the season, one shy of the Adrian single-season record. It also runs Michelin's consecutive shutout minutes to 198:06.
The Bulldogs and Saints will go at it again on Sunday, December 5 for a 2:00 p.m. matchup.
