The men's hockey team wrapped up their second straight undefeated MCHA regular season on Saturday afternoon in convincing fashion as they beat MSOE, 9-2, at Arrington Ice Arena. Junior defenseman Chris Stansik set an MCHA career record for points by a defenseman with a goal and assist. He now has 84 points in league games.
The Bulldogs led 9-0 in this one and left no doubt who the best team in the league was in 2009-10. Adrian (22-3, 20-0 MCHA) scored three goals in the first and added five more in the second and one in the third. Brad Fogal made 29 saves before allowing two power play goals late in the third. He is currently undefeated during his MCHA career in net (52-0-0).
Zach Graham earned the first star of the game finishing with a goal and four assists. He scored the first goal of the game at 2:18 for his 14th of the season and also had one assist in the first, two in the second and one more in the third. Brad Houston scored a pair of goals pushing his season total to 20. He is one of three players with at least 20 goals scored this season for the Bulldogs. Shawn Skelly hit the 20-goal plateau in the second period just 30 seconds into the period.
Andrew Dovey earned the third star of the game scoring Adrian's final goal at 9:25 of the third and also gaining two assists. Adrian outshot MSOE, 34-31, for the game as the Raiders held a 16-6 edge in the third. MSOE scored two power play goals while Adrian was 1-for-4 on the advantage.
Adrian has now won 27 straight at home and will have a bye week coming up before playing in the MCHA Harris Cup semifinals on Friday, March 5 at Arrington Ice Arena. The first-round playoff series will happen this upcoming weekend. The top two seeds in the tournament receive byes for the first time this season. Kyle Frieday scored a goal in his final regular season game at home. The senior finished the regular season with nine goals. Rob Hodnicki also had an assist in his last home game.
