Final Stats
HOLLAND, Mich. - The women's basketball team
saw their season come to an end in the MIAA Semifinals with a 66-54
loss at Hope on Thursday night. Sophomore Katie Ross had a
career-high 19 points and made five three-pointers coming off the
bench in 28 minutes for the Bulldogs. Ross entered the game
averaging 5.6 points per game and hit double figures for the fifth
time this season. She ended the game 7-of-14 from the floor and
also had five boards and three steals.
Unfortunately for the Bulldogs the rest of the team struggled to
put the ball in the hoop. Adrian shot 24.2 percent (15-of-62) from
the floor meaning the other seven players on the team combined to
shoot 8-of-48 (14.3%). Despite that the Adrian defense rose to the
occasion especially in the second half. Hope shot 50 percent
(14-of-28) in the first half and took a 36-26 lead into the locker
room. In the second half, the Flying Dutch shot just 23.3 percent
(7-of-30) and were 0-of-7 from the arc.
The Bulldogs led twice in the first minute of the game but that
was it as Hope built a 13-5 lead five minutes into the contest.
Adrian hung around all game in a tough environment but just could
not find a run that would have gotten them within a single
possession. Hope led by as many as 12 in the first half at 36-24
with under a minute to play in the opening half.
The Bulldogs made a mini-run at the Flying Dutch in the final
minutes of the game. Adrian cut the lead down to 53-48 on a
three-pointer by Anita Stamps with
3:59 to go. Elysia Norris and
Ashley
McClarren both fouled out of the game within 35 seconds of each
other which shortened the bench for the Bulldogs. Hope once again
built their lead to double digits at 60-49 with 1:42 left after a
pair of Liz Ellis free throws. Adrian cut the lead to seven late
but could not get any closer.
Adrian concludes their season at 12-14 overall. Four seniors
played in their final game for Adrian. Stamps had 12 points tonight
and finished her career with 1,049 points. Stamps also had 359
rebounds, 224 assists and 189 steals in 102 games. Jennifer Perrin
scored 12 points against Hope and also had eight rebounds in 35
minutes. Perrin finished with 928 career points and was an 81
percent free throw shooter (268-of-331). She also had 365 rebounds,
221 assists and 95 steals.
McClarren had 655 career points in 90 career games (7.3 ppg).
She also had 443 rebounds, 111 assists and 82 steals. Norris had
six points and 10 rebounds in her final game. It was fifth
double-digit rebounding game of the season. She finished her career
with 540 points, 374 rebounds, 93 assists and 80 steals.
