Big Second Period Key in 4-1 Loss to UW-River Falls in NCHA Semifinal

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The women's hockey team fell 4-1 against sixth-ranked UW-River Falls in the NCHA semifinals on Friday night hosted by Lake Forest. The top two seeds lost today as UW-Superior defeated the host 1-0 earlier in the day. The Falcons of UW-River Falls scored three times in the second period, all even strength goals, and will try and defend their postseason title tomorrow.

After a hard-fought scoreless first period, UWRF scored 1:08 into the second as Alyssa Black notched her sixth goal of the season with an assist from Alyssa Jackson. The Falcons made it 2-0 at 5:30 as Jessica Thompson scored her 12th goal of the year with assists from Katie Flanagan and Bailey Vikstrom. Adrian found itself really behind the right ball as UWRF scored at 17:28 to take an insurmountable 3-0 lead. Judy Daleiden scored her third goal of the year with assists from Heather Horgan and Emma Nordness. The Bulldogs got a power play goal at 19:12 as Brooke Zaleski scored her 10th goal of the season with assists from Jessica Grubbs and Danielle Maludy.

UWRF scored an empty net goal at 17:59 of the third off the stick of Abby Sunderman to send the Falcons into the championship game. Dana Timm playing in her final game for Adrian made 40 saves including 16 in each of the first two periods. UWRF held a 16-4 edge in shots on goal in the first before Adrian evened things out a little bit for the rest of the contest. Adrian went 1-of-7 on the power play.
