Box Score ADRIAN, Mich. – It took the Adrian College women's hockey team a little while to warm up but finished off conference opponent Finlandia University 5-1 for the victory. The Bulldogs improved their record to 9-5-2 on the year and 7-2-2 tthe NCHA.
It took the Bulldogs midway through the first period as freshman Rebecca Hampton (Sherwood Park, Alta) scored her first career goal to get Adrian the earl lead. Junior Olivia Rork (Wayne, Mich.) and sophomore Ashley Gniewek (Southgate, Mich.) assisted Hampton on the goal. Adrian outshot the Lions 11-2 in the first period.
The Bulldogs got the second period going early netting the first power play goal of the evening when senior Danielle Maludy (Maumee, Ohio) rocketed home a slap shot past the Finlandia goalie assisted by senior Stacey Kempson (Windsor, Ont.). Adrian answered again 1:25 later as freshman Lauren Turner tapped home the puck from senior Jessica Grubbs (Woodbridge, Va.) and junior Brooke Zaleski (Toledo, Ohio). The Bulldogs again dominated the shots during the period, 26-5.
Adrian carried the momentum over into the final period as junior Kelly Salis (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) netted home her second goal of the season on the power play as Grubbs and Zaleski assisted. Freshman Morgan Poole (Ottawa, Ont.) finished off the Adrian scoring as she pushed home her first career goal at the 12:43 mark from fellow freshman Nina Laurie (Palatine, Ill.) and Kempson. Finlandia managed to break through with about four minutes to go in the game as Nicole Schumacher scored a power play goal.
Ashley Drop (Erie, Pa.), a sophomore, made the start in goal and stopped nine Tiger shots.
For the game, Adrian outshot Finlandia 57-10. The 57 shots on goal by the Bulldogs tied for fourth all-time in school history. It also ranks tied for seventh all-time in the NCHA conference play. The Bulldogs were sent to the penalty box for a season-high 10 penalties totaling 20 minutes, including six times in the third period.
