APPLETON, Wis. - One goal in each period was enough on Saturday
(Jan. 22) as the men's hockey team completed a weekend sweep of
Lawrence University with a 3-1 win at the Appleton Ice Center. With
the win, Adrian is now 9-0 all-time versus Lawrence and 4-0 on the
road. The Bulldogs are now 13-3-1 overall and remain tied in first
in the MCHA with a 10-1-1 record. MSOE also swept Finlandia this
weekend to improve to 10-1-1 as well.
The Adrian attack consisted of two even strength scores and one
power play goal before Lawrence got on the board nearing the end of
the game. Sophomore Andrew Dovey scored the winner on Friday and
got Adrian going with his fifth goal of the season at 13:51 of the
first period. Zach Graham and Shawn Skelly each had an assist on
the goal. Adrian had a 13-10 edge in the first period in shots on
goal.
Graham scored with the man advantage at 14:55 of the second
period with assists from Skelly and Bobby Hineman. Graham's 10th
goal of the season made it 2-0 after 40 minutes. Adrian had a 28-24
edge in shots on goal through two periods.
Skelly completed a three-point night with his 11th goal of the
season at 7:08 of the third period with assists from Graham and
Shawn Courtney. Matt Hughes scored at 14:33 on the power play for
the Vikings to keep them from being shutout. William Thoren and
Brad Scurfield each had an assist on Hughes' goal.
Brad Fogal made 33 saves on 34 Lawrence shots to pick up his
81st career win. Evan Johnson made 32 saves on 35 Adrian shots
taking the loss in net for Lawrence. Adrian committed eight
penalties for 27 minutes. The Bulldogs were 1-of-4 on the power
play while the Vikings were 1-of-7.
