Box Score OSWEGO, N.Y. – The women's hockey team began the 2011-12 season with a weekend sweep of Oswego State with a 5-3 victory on Saturday (Oct. 29). Five different Bulldogs scored a goal in the win and sophomore goaltender Emily Michelin made 31 saves between the pipes.
The teams played to a first period tie at 1-1 as Danielle Smith scored on the power play for the Bulldogs at 17:31 with assists from Olivia Rork and Kristin Maton. Oswego State scored at even strength just1:16 later as Mackenzie Lee scored with assists from Jillian Bergeron and Kelly Collins.
Both teams traded goals early in the second period as Adrian took a 2-1 lead on Ashley Gniewek's goal at even strength from Smith. Carly Henderson tied it at 2-2 on the power play with an assist from Lee for Oswego State at the 9:28 mark.
Adrian then took control of the game with three straight goals. AC took a 3-2 after 40 minutes after Courtney Millar scored at even strength from Smith at 12:00 of the second. Rork scored at 4:19 of the third as Smith picked up her third assist and career-high fourth point of the game to give AC a 4-2 lead. Lauren Zachwieja extended the lead to 5-2 at the 7:58 mark at even strength with an assist from Hannah McGowan. Collins cut the lead to 5-3 at the 10:33 mark for the Lakers but it was all the comeback they could muster.
Oswego State outshot Adrian, 34-31, with a 13-6 edge in the third. Adrian went 2-of-4 on the power play and the Lakers were 1-of-5. Adrian was called for five minor penalties with three coming in the second period. Rork did a good job in the faceoff circle with 11 wins in 16 tries.
