Box Score SUPERIOR, Wisc. – A third period goal by sophomore Nina Laurie guided the Adrian College women's hockey team to its first 2011-12 conference win in a comeback over UW-Superior today (Nov. 12). Adrian won 3-2 , after being down 2-0,on the ice of Wessman Arena. The Lady Bulldogs improve to 3-2-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the NCHA. The Yellow Jackets drop to 3-2-2 overall and 2-1-1 in league play.
After a scoreless first period, Superior took a 2-0 lead at the 6:57 and 11:32 marks with goals courtesy of Kaiti Graham and Kerry Mayhew.
In the second period, junior Kristin Maton put Adrian on the board with an 18:17 power play goal, giving her two on the season. With less than a minute remaining in the second, sophomore Sarah Connelly found classmate Nina Laurie for the equalizer. It marked Laurie's first goal of the season.
Laurie responded again in the final period with another goal at 3:48, this time off a power a play, for the game-winner.
Adrian senior goalie Brittany Zeches got the nod today and gloved 27 saves in 60 minutes of play.
For the game, Adrian capitalized on power play opportunities as they went 2-3 on power play goals-attempt, while Superior was 1-8.
The Lady Bulldogs are back in action as they host St. Norbert next Saturday (Nov. 19) in their home opener at Arrington Ice Arena. The game is slated for a 7:00 p.m. start.
