Early Back-to-Back Goals the Difference in 6-4 Win Over St. Norbert

ADRIAN, Mich. – In its home opener, the nationally ranked Adrian College women's hockey team topped NCHA foe Saint Norbert College tonight (Nov. 19) inside Arrington Ice Arena. Two first period back-to-back Adrian goals ended up being the difference as the Bulldogs won 6-4 over the Green Knights.

Adrian sophomore Nina Laurie scored the first goal of the game (third of season) at the 4:03 mark with sophomore Danielle Smith and senior Brooke Zaleski earning the assists. On the ensuing possession, Adrian senior forward Olivia Rork connected for a 4:20 score for her fourth on the year. Senior Jenna Corbin and junior Ashley Gniewek picked up the assists.

The Green Knights settled down and got on the board at the 8:03 mark when Karissa Anderson snuck one past Adrian's keeper. Saint Norbert added another goal late at 18:27, this time it was Laurel Hill on a power play to knot it up at 2-2.

Adrian regained the lead when sophomore Lauren Turner found classmate Sarah Connelly for the score with less than 15 seconds left before intermission.

In the second period, Rork scored her second goal of the game (9:35) off a power play with senior Kelly Salis earning the assist. At the 14:00 mark, Rork picked up her second career hat trick with her team-leading sixth goal of the season. This time Gniewek and sophomore Rebecca Hampton were tabbed with the assists.

Freshman Hannah McGowan added insurance for Adrian with a power play goal at the 18:05 mark in the second period, giving her three goals on the year. Junior Kristin Maton and sophomore Amanda Gay earned the assists.

Saint Norbert added two late goals in the third period at 13:16 and 18:53.

Adrian goalie senior Brittany Zeches started and played in the first period and earned the win. Zeches allowed two goals and earned nine saves and goes to 2-0 on the year. Sophomore Emily Michelin, who was presented with a plaque before the game for earning All-American honors a season ago, played the remaining periods between the pipes and allowed two scores and gathered in a game-high 23 saves.

The Green Knights out-shot the Bulldogs 36-19. Adrian went 2-for-4 with power play opportunities, while Saint Norbert went 1-for-7.

The two teams faceoff again tomorrow in Adrian with a 2:00 p.m. starting time.
