Box Score ADRIAN, Mich. – For the first time in seven years, the Adrian College men's basketball team (3-1) topped local foe Siena Heights (3-3) inside of Merillat Gymnasium by the score of 77-67 on Tuesday night (Nov. 22). It was Adrian's largest margin of victory over the Saints in the annual Battle for the Milk Jug since they first played them in 1977 when they won 84-64.
Adrian's offense was guided by junior Sean Gallant who led four in double-figures with a game and career-high 24 points. Freshman Eric Lewis was right behind Gallant with 17 points. Junior Brad Whitby and freshman Adam Meier also had 13 and 10 points, respectively. Meier's 10 points marked his career-high.
In the first half, the Bulldogs shot out of the gate with a 7-0 run topped off by a layup courtesy of Gallant. The Saints responded with a 12-4 run to take a 12-11 lead after a three-pointer by Zach Craig at the 10:59 mark. On the ensuing possession for Adrian, Whitby scored off a layup to put Adrian ahead 13-12.
Four ties later, junior Cody Barnes found Meier for a quick score putting Adrian in the lead by the score of 23-21 with 2:47 left before intermission. For the rest of the half, the Bulldogs did not let go of the lead and held a 30-25 advantage at halftime.
The Bulldogs came out of the locker room and picked up where they left off in the first half. They had their largest lead of the game at the 12:17 mark, when junior Delano Collins made a nice pass on a fast break to Gallant for a score, giving Adrian a 47-35 lead. Adrian never looked back for the duration of the game.
On the boards, Gallant had a game-high eight rebounds followed by Lewis with seven. Also making an impact on the glass was Collins and Meier who each had six boards. Collins dished out a game-high six assists.
Adrian has won three games in a row and is back in action this Saturday (Nov. 26) when they host Concordia (Mich.) at 3:00 p.m.
