Box Score RIVER FALLS, Wisc. – In a rematch of the 2010-11 NCHA O'Brien Cup Championship game, the Adrian College women's hockey team traveled to the University of Wisconsin River Falls for a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association showdown. It marked both team's conference opener as well as U-W River Falls' season opener. The Falcons bested the Lady Bulldogs by the score of 5-2.
No. 5 UW-River Falls (1-0, 1-0) came out with vengeance in the first period and put up four goals at 3:43, 8:18, 13:56, and 18:31.
Adrian (2-1, 0-1) rebounded in the second period and came out inspired as it scored its first goal of the game at 13:35 when freshman Hannah McGowan scored her second goal of the season unassisted. Adrian would add another score at 5:55 in the third period, nine seconds into the power play, when senior Kelly Salis scored her first goal of the season. That would cut into the Falcons lead to 4-2.
The Falcons would score once more in the third and the early deficit for Adrian proved to be too large to overcome.
Adrian's sophomore goalie Emily Michelin gets the loss. She played in the first 13:56 minutes and allowed three goals, while accumulating five saves. Senior Brittany Zeches, transfer from Division I Wayne State University, relieved the goalie duties for 44:29 minutes and allowed two goals and had a team-high 13 saves.
The Lady Bulldogs will look to feed off their second and third period effort as they play U-W River Falls tomorrow (Nov. 5) at 1:05 EST.
