Mosley Shines on Senior Day

ADRIAN, Mich. - The final home game for senior Jovon Mosley was a memorable one as he scored a career-high 30 points in a 72-63 win over Trine University. Mosley, the only senior on the squad, connected on a career-high six three-pointers in 10 attempts and was 11-of-18 from the floor.

Mosley got off to a hot start scoring 15 of Adrian's first 17 points giving the Bulldogs a 17-7 lead just 5:18 into the game. Mosley started 6-of-6 from the floor and Adrian made their first four triples as a team. Trine battled back to within three at 23-20 on a pair of Ian Jackson free throws at the 10:07 mark. Adrian went on an 8-0 run to lead 31-20 with 6:54 left in the first half. The run was capped off by a fast-break slam dunk by Sean Gallant.

Trine scored the next seven points to cut the lead to 31-27 capped by a Jordan Brady layup with 5:16 to play in the half. The Thunder could not get closer than three for the rest of the half and a Delano Collins three-pointer and Gallant free throw gave Adrian a 41-34 lead at intermission. The 41 points was a season-high for the first half by the Bulldogs as they shot 16-of-27 (.593) in the first 20 minutes including 5-of-7 from behind the arc. Mosley led Adrian with 17 points at the break.

Adrian built their lead to double digits twice in the first 5:36 of the second half and led 49-39 at the 14:24 mark after a layup by Gallant. Trine once again got the lead down to four twice including a 59-55 deficit with 7:52 to play after a triple by Dean Thompson. Mosley hit consecutive three-pointers to push the lead back to 65-57 with 5:22 remaining.

Adrian led 66-60 with 4:24 to go and neither team would score until Jackson completed a three-point play with 1:05 on the clock which made it 66-63. Gallant was fouled with 35 seconds left and hit both free throws. Jackson was fouled and then missed both free throws and Mosley grabbed the second miss. He went to the line and scored his 29th and 30th points of the game with 29 seconds to go. After a turnover by Thompson, Wesley Reed made both free throws with 18 seconds left to make it 72-63. Reed's free throws gave him 33-of-34 at the foul line in conference play this season establishing a new single-season record.

The Bulldogs beat the Thunder for the seventh straight time and shot 49 percent for the contest. Adrian also outrebounded Trine, 32-23, with nine offensive boards. Gallant finished with a career-high 18 points and made a career-high five free throws in six tries. He went 6-of-9 from the field and also led the team with eight rebounds.

Adrian concludes the regular season with a 12-12 record going 7-7 in the MIAA. The Bulldogs will be the fifth-seed in the upcoming MIAA Tournament. They will travel to Olivet College (13-12, 8-6) on Wednesday, Feb. 23 for a 7:30 PM tip against the fourth-seeded Comets. Olivet won both games during the regular season including a buzzer-beater at Olivet in the first meeting between the two teams.
