DEMOREST, Ga. - The kinks seemed to be worked out in game two of the season at the plate as the Bulldogs (1-1) collected 17 hits in a 16-8 win over Millsaps after dropping a 5-3 decision yesterday.
Adrian struck first in the bottom of the first with four runs as senior Jake Cappelletty drove home two runs on a single and senior Joe Dubina hit a ball to third which was misplayed allowing two more runs to cross the plate.
Millsaps scored six runs in the top of the second on five hits as Will Hawkins delivered a bases-clearing triple recording three RBI's and chasing starter David Partyka. Sophomore Josh Burd came into the game and settled things down by ending the threat with a strikeout. Burd would pick up the win going 4.2 innings and allowing two earned runs. He scattered 10 hits and struck out four.
The Bulldogs regained the lead at 8-6 with four more runs in the third. They pounded out five hits in the frame as Dubina had an RBI single followed by a two-RBI double by Cody Meyer. Andrew DeLuca also had an RBI single to give AC a two-run cushion.
Millsaps tied the game at 8-8 with a pair of runs in the fourth. Jules Roussel had an RBI triple and Jason Riggins followed with an RBI double. AC went up 9-8 with a run in the fourth as Cappelletty had an RBI double.
The Bulldogs started to pull away with four runs in the sixth on four more hits. Garrett Green had the biggest blow with a two-run triple and Meyer followed with an RBI single. Adrian put the game away with three runs in the eighth. Mitch Stefanski had a ground-rule RBI double and DeLuca smacked a two-run double.
The Adrian bullpen rose to the occasion holding Millsaps off the board for the final five innings. Craig Steadman threw 1.2 innings and struck out one and Rylie Robinson pitched the final inning and struck out two in his collegiate debut.
The top of the order performed admirably as Meyer went 4-for-5 with three runs and three RBI's and DeLuca went 3-for-6 with three RBI's. Cappelletty went 2-for-4 with a run and three RBI's. Dubina also drove in three and Green went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI's.
