Men's Hoops Downed 45-38 by Olivet

ADRIAN, Mich. - It was a struggle to put the basketball through the hoop for both teams on Thursday night (Feb. 3) as the cold weather outside was just about as frigid as the shooting in a 45-38 loss to Olivet. The Bulldogs scored a season-low in points and also shot a season-low 29.2 percent from the floor, but were still in the contest because the Comets shot just 26.7 percent themselves from the field.

Olivet shot 1-of-12 from behind the arc and were 12-of-18 at the free throw line. Adrian went 3-of-15 from behind the arc and were 7-of-11 from the charity stripe. Sophomore guard Wesley Reed came into the game averaging 10.1 points but managed just three points on 1-of-10 shooting. Sophomore forward Sean Gallant led the team with nine points and also grabbed seven boards. Sophomore forward Dennis Mason snagged 12 rebounds, a career-high, and added six points. Adrian was also hurt by 18 turnovers while the Comets committed 10 miscues.

Adrian led 19-16 at halftime but did not score a point until the 13:44 mark of the second half. Olivet used a 13-0 run to start the second half and push their lead to 29-19. Adrian tried the claw back and got within four points at 42-38 with 44 seconds left after a thunderous dunk by Mason. Eric Mack missed the front end of a 1-and-1 but Delano Collins missed a running jumper with 20 seconds left and was forced to foul. Jaren Edsall made both free throws to put the game out of reach.
