Box Score LAKE FOREST, Ill. – By winning 6-3 on Friday night at Lake Forest, the Adrian College women's hockey team is within one win of clinching a spot in the conference tournament. The win improves the Bulldogs record to 11-6-3 on the year and 9-7-3 in the NCHA.
Adrian got on the board first as junior Kelly Salis (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) scored a power play goal six minutes into the opening period on an assist from freshman Nina Laurie (Palatine, Ill.). The Foresters tied the game up on a goal by Stephanie Slinde at the 9:18 mark. Adrian would quickly regain the lead just 37 seconds later as Salis scored her sixth goal of the season assisted by fellow juniors Brooke Zaleski (Toledo, Ohio) and Shana Davis (Cassel Berry, Fla.).
The Bulldogs added to their lead in the second as Laurie scored her ninth goal of the year just 25 seconds into the period off an assist from senior Stacey Kempson (Windsor, Ont.). Senior Lauren Anastos (Farmington Hills, Mich.) netted what proved to be the game-winner 2:31 seconds later on an assist from freshman Danielle Smith (Highland, Mich.). Anastos scored her second goal of the season only 25 seconds after Lake Forest has replaced their starting goaltender Stacey Dierking for Alyssa Wintermute. The Foresters pulled within one after Mira Trebilcock and Kim Herring each scored before the end of the period.
Up 4-3 to start the third, it took the Bulldogs a little while to get going, but managed to close out the game with goals by Laurie and Kempson. Laurie scored on the power play at the 10:42 mark of the third on an assist from senior Ashley Aiken (Eastpointe, Mich.). Kempson managed to finish off the game on a high note as she scored her twelfth of the season with just 13 seconds left in the game with an assist from freshman Alix Vallee (Belleville, Ont.).
In goal, freshman Emily Michelin (Highland, Mich.) made 25 saves to improve her record to 8-4-2 on the year.
On the night, Adrian was 2-of-5 on the power play while Lake Forest was 1-of-8. The Bulldogs out-shot the Foresters 29-28 for the game.
Adrian will look to lock up a spot in the NCHA playoffs if they can defeat Lake Forest in the series finale on Saturday, February 5. The puck is scheduled to drop at 3:00 p.m. (est).
