ADRIAN, Mich. - The 2010-11 senior class came through once again on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 5) in a tight spot scoring all five goals in a 5-3 win over Lake Forest, including two goals in the final 20 minutes after the teams were tied 3-3 after two periods. The first four-year class in program history has now posted a 94-11-2 record, best start in NCAA history for a new program.
Adrian jumped out in their usual quick fashion against the Foresters with two goals in the first 2:19 to take a 2-0 lead. Joel Workman scored his seventh goal of the season unassisted off a faceoff and move between the rings at 1:09. Eric Miller followed with his team-leading 14th goal at 2:19 from Brad Houston and Jeremy Klaver.
Lake Forest cut the lead to 2-1 at 3:49 as Brad Fogal misplayed the puck to the side of his net which left the Bulldogs scrambling to stop the puck. Phil Bushbacher took advantage of the miscue for his 10th goal with an assist from Ethan Goldberg. Adrian built their two-goal lead back at 6:52 short-handed as Mike Towns slipped one past netminder Austin Erney for his fifth goal with an assist from Kyle Watson. Zach Kozak made it 3-2 after one period with a blast from seven feet away straight on Fogal for his fourth goal with an assist from Justin Crawford. Adrian outshot Lake Forest, 17-7, in the first 20 minutes.
The Foresters played a solid second period keeping Adrian off the scoreboard and getting a tying goal themselves at 18:04 of the period by Crawford. His first goal of the season was assisted by Chris Gard. Lake Forest outshot Adrian, 13-8, in the second period.
Adrian wanted the seniors to go out with a win during their final regular season home game and they responded with a goal by Houston at 6:12 and a Mike Dahlinger goal at 9:08 to add insurance to the 5-3 win. Houston finished with the game-winning goal and two assists. Dahlinger also assisted on the game-winner to finish with two points.
Fogal made 26 saves in net for the Bulldogs and Jeremy Cross played the final 51 seconds of the game between the pipes.
