MONROE, Mich. - The women's varsity bowling team opened up the 2011-2012 season on a good note finishing sixth amongst the 17 other varsity teams and eighth overall in a field of 23 teams in their first conference tournament on Saturday. The team made a strong push in the last couple sets of baker games to narrowly miss out on a top five finish by only seven pins. The field contained six junior varsity teams and Adrian's JV team finished 19th overall and fourth in the JV division.
Adrian had three bowlers finish in the top 30 and was led by junior Kristen Marcis, averaging a 172.2 which would place her 15th out of 140 bowlers. "Kristen really threw the ball great all day," said head coach Jody Fetterhoff. "This was her best tournament so far in her career here at Adrian and I really look for her to have a great season." Sophomore Emily Gesell placed 26th overall with a 165 average while Adrian's JV team was led by sophomore Jessica Stamper who finished 29th overall, averaging 164 on the day.
The team has two weeks to prepare for their first-ever home tournament at Lenawee Recreation on October 8 starting at 11:00 am. They will be competing against Alma College, Bowling Green, Siena Heights, Youngstown State, Saginaw Valley and Eastern Michigan, looking for their first tournament win in program history. There will also be 14 men's teams fighting for the AC Open Championship as well. The team is extremely excited to host their first ever tournament and encourages everyone to stop by the bowling alley to cheer on the team.
