COLUMBUS, Ohio - The women's bowling team finished tied for third competing against 11 other teams in the Buckeye Baker Classic held in Columbus, Ohio this past weekend. On the first day of competition, the team would bowl 24 baker games on a very tough sport pattern. The team had trouble making spares and ended the day in eighth place. The second day was much better and after qualifying the team moved up to sixth place, making them the sixth seed in the single elimination championship bracket.
In the first round, the team would face tournament host #3 seed Ohio State in a best of three baker game match. Ohio State got off to a great start shooting a 214 while Adrian struggled with a 138 game. Facing elimination, Adrian rebounded shooting a 186 to even up the match. The final game came down to the last frame with Adrian needing one pin to win the game and move on. Adrian won the match and would face #2 seed Notre Dame College.
In another close match, Notre Dame College would win the first game 212-191 and Adrian would tie it up in the second game winning 157-152. Adrian got some bad breaks in the last game and lost 165-150 to finish tied for third in the tournament.
"Despite struggling with spares throughout the tournament, the team rallied and everyone stepped up during the match play portion," said head coach Jody Fetterhoff. "Both Ohio State and Notre Dame College had large cheering sections, but the team continued to throw great shots and make their spares to stay in the matches. This tournament gave the team more experience in pressure field situations and they will be better prepared for bigger tournaments that we compete in later in the season." The team will be competing in their final regular season conference tournament in Cincinnati, Ohio on Saturday.
