BEAVERCREEK, Ohio - The women's bowling team opened their season finishing 10th out of 21 teams in the Orange & Black Classic this past weekend in Dayton, Ohio. The team got off to a great start day one shooting a 913, 912 and an 897 for the first three team games. Games four and five were not as strong, but the team rebounded in game six to shoot an 888 and finished the day in eighth place.
Sophomore Nicole Loomis had an outstanding tournament in which she place seventh out of 140 bowlers. She shot a 1,212 for six games averaging a 202 for the day. Junior Chelsea Essenmacher and senior Kristen Marcis also bowled well averaging 183.4 and 178.5 respectfully.
Freshman Taylor Ouellette bowling in her first tournament showed a lot of promise as she averaged a 172 and sophomore Katie Harms improved upon last season's average and finished with an average of 167.2. The team bowled over 300 pins better than they did the year before at this tournament on the first day of competition.
The second day of competition consisted of 16 baker games and the team's slow start would come back to haunt them as they missed making the top eight match play round by only 69 pins. While the team's last two sets were strong, it wouldn't be enough to make up for their bad start.
"Overall the team performed well for their first tournament of the season. Their spare shooting is a little rusty, so I look for that to get better as the season gets underway. This is by far the deepest team we have ever had and I'm looking forward to our next two tournaments on November 3 & 4 in Cleveland, Ohio," said head coach Jody Fetterhoff.
