Box Score PITTSBURGH – The women's hockey team (7-2) won their fifth straight game by shutting out Chatham University (2-6), 5-0, Sunday afternoon in a non-conference game.
Danielle Smith got the first two goals, including the game-winner, and three other Bulldogs had multiple-point performances to pace Adrian.
Devyn Fitzhenry, Kelsey Kusch, and Lauren Turner had a pair of assists each in the win, while Brittany Zeches recorded her fifth shutout of the season and second in as many days.
Adrian took a 1-0 lead before the game was two minutes old, but that would be all the scoring in the first period. Smith's second goal would come midway through the second period. Kusch assisted on both Smith goals, with Fitzhenry also getting an assist on Smith's first of the day, and Turner getting credited with an assist on Smith's second goal. Smith now leads the team in goals with seven.
The Bulldogs then scored the next two goals on the power play. With just under four minutes left in the middle frame, Hannah McGowan would put Adrian up 3-0. Emily Marks and Alix Vallee would earn assists.
The second power-play goal would come midway through the third period as Sarah Connelly would stake Adrian to a 4-0 lead. Fitzhenry and Turner received assists.
With just 10 seconds left in the contest, Abby Kibler would add an empty-net short-handed goal for the 5-0 final.
For the third consecutive day, Adrian fired 50-plus shots on net with 52 on Chatham today. The shot barrage has resulted in Adrian to be the first team to produce four goal scorers with five or more this season in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (Smith, McGowan, Connelly, Kusch).
The game was the first of seven on the road- as the team will travel to St. Scholastica and St. Norbert before heading to Buffalo in January. While each visit entails a pair of games, all but the games in Buffalo will be conference games.
