Box Score DULUTH, Minn. – The No. 9 Adrian College women's hockey team (8-2, 5-2) defeated St. Scholastica, 4-2, Friday in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game.
The Bulldogs would come from behind, after falling behind 1-0 with three unanswered goals, to take a 3-1 lead, before trading goals with the Saints for a 4-2 final.
Devyn Fitzhenry would be the only Adrian player to record a multiple-point night with a goal and an assist, including a power play goal with under two minutes left in the first period to start the rally and tie the game at 1-1.
In the second period with seven minutes left, Sarah Connelly would net her sixth of the season. Alix Vallee would get the game winner about a minute later to put Adrian up 3-1.
The Saints made a game of it by answering back with less than four minutes left in the second period to make it a 3-2 game, but Danielle Smith would stop St. Scholastica's momentum with her team-leading eight of the season just 32 seconds into the final period.
Fitzhenry, Smith and Kristin Maton would lead the team with a plus-2 each, while goaltender Brittany Zeches made 28 saves.
The Bulldogs were 1-for-5 on the power play and finished the night with 34 shots. These same two teams will go at it again tomorrow night with an 8 p.m. start locally.
