The Adrian College women's bowling team competed in their first two AHIBC conference events of the season finishing sixth and fifth out of the 10 teams that competed this weekend.
In the first event the team did a great job winning most of their head to head matches for the first four team games and earned themselves a lot of the bonus pins. They dropped off a bit in the last team game and with the start of their baker matches but put together a solid finish averaging a 179.33 over the last 12 baker games. While the team bowled pretty good games they faced really tough opponents during the baker portion and lost out on the bonus pins. Junior Chelsea Essenmacher led the team finishing second out of 98 bowlers averaging a 202 for five games.
The team really came together for the second tournament and were able to move ahead of 14th-ranked Marian University to finish fifth. The biggest difference between the first day and second day was the team was able to win their head-to-head matches during the baker game portion securing at least 60 bonus pins each match for a total of 260 extra pins. The team won all four games against the University of Louisville and then took three out of four games from fifth-ranked Wright State University, 12th-ranked Notre Dame College and 15th-ranked Bowling Green State University.
Freshman Taylor Ouellette had an exceptional tournament finishing 11th overall with an average of 186.75. She bowled even better during the baker matches and stepped up every time her team needed her in the tenth frame to win the game.
"The whole team fought each game doing everything they could to give Taylor a chance to win it in the tenth frame and she came through for them. I definitely saw a different team show up the second day and I couldn't be happier with how they all came together at the same time. We bowl on the same pattern this weekend at Wright State's tournament so the team is excited and ready to improve upon last year's third place finish," said head coach Jody Fetterhoff.
