Box Score ADRIAN, Mich. – The No. 4 Adrian College men's hockey team (9-0, 8-0) got by Concordia University (4-7, 4-4) for the second time in as many days with a 4-3 win, Saturday afternoon in a Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association Southern Division game to remain one of only two ranked teams in Division III hockey with a perfect record (no losses or ties).
Josh Ranalli took a feed from Shaquille Merasty for the lone goal of the third period that proved to be the game-winner in a game that the Bulldogs never trailed. Merasty's game-winning assist left the MCHA Freshman of the Week with a five-point weekend.
Merasty is the leading scoring freshman in D III hockey (sixth overall) for the nation's most potent offense that averages six goals-a-game.
The Falcons got all of their goals on the power play going 3-for-9 with the man advantage.
Adrian would open the scoring with a pair of goals less than three minutes apart, midway through the first period to stake a 2-0 lead.
Zach Wilson's third goal of the season from Kyle Gallinger and Kevin Balas put the Bulldogs up 1-0. Duston Hebebrand then got his second goal of the campaign with assists from Justin Basso and Sam Nyberg before Concordia would cut the lead to 2-1 to end the first period.
Zach Graham would restore Adrian's two-goal cushion with his seventh, unassisted on the power play, in the opening minutes of the second period. It was Adrian's lone chance on the power play of the period, whereas Concordia would get seven power play chances in the second period and convert twice to tie the game at 3 apiece before the period's end.
The Bulldogs outshot the Falcons, 45-38, as James Hamby notched his fifth win of the season. Adrian won't return to action until the end of the month in a pair of home non-conference games against the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point on December 29th and 30th.
