Box Score DULUTH, Minn. – The No. 9 Adrian College women's hockey team (9-2, 6-2) responded with six unanswered goals after trailing 1-0 to St. Scholastica (3-3-2, 2-3-1) to cruise to an 8-4 victory, Saturday night in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play.
Kelsey Kusch led the Bulldogs with four points and three goals, as five Adrian players registered multiple-point games and the Bulldogs exploded for seven goals in the first two periods.
Devyn Fitzhenry repeated her performance from the night before with a goal and an assist. The Bulldogs got three-point nights out of Danielle Smith and Emily Marks, as each registered a goal and a pair of assists, while Hannah McGowan also added two helpers in the win.
Goaltender Brittany Zeches made 24 saves, while the potent Bulldog attack chased the Saints' starting goalie from the net after 25 minutes of play.
After allowing the game's first goal in the opening minutes of play, Adrian would close out the first period with four goals in a span of under eight minutes for a 4-1 lead. Fitzhenry opened the scoring for Adrian, followed by Smith before Kusch would net two of her three on the night.
The Bulldogs would get two more goals just over five minutes into the second period for a 6-1 lead, and then trade goals to end the second period, 7-2. Marks, Lauren Turner and Kusch scored in the middle stanza, respectively.
The Saints would then add a pair of third period power-play goals before Sarah Connelly would close out the game's scoring for an 8-4 final.
In all, 10 different Adrian players would register at least a point, with Marks getting the game-winner. Courtney Millar, Audrey Noles and Kristin Maton all added an assist in the win. Both Fitzhenry and Smith would lead the team in plus-minus with a plus-4 each, while Kusch would register a team-high seven shots on the night.
The lady Bulldogs will continue on the road next weekend with a pair of conference games against St. Norbert, with an 8 p.m. game on Friday followed by a 3 p.m. game Saturday.
