Box Score DE PERE, Wis. – Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Player of the Week Kelsey Kusch scored her second goal of the game with just 16 seconds left in regulation to power the No. 9 women's hockey team (10-2, 7-2) over St. Norbert College (3-4-2, 2-4-1), 2-1, Friday, in a televised game in the Green Bay area.
With the win, the Bulldogs took sole possession of first place in the NCHA and extended their winning streak to eight games.
After a scoreless first period, both teams traded power-play goals under four minutes apart in the second period. The Green Knights got on the board first, midway through the period to take the 1-0 lead, before Kusch got her first of the night to tie the game at 1-1 with less than four minutes left in the stanza. Alix Vallee assisted on the game-tying goal.
Kusch netted her second of the game at the 19:44 mark of the third period from Devyn Fitzhenry and Vallee. It was Vallee's second assist of the night and vaulted her into the team lead in assists with nine.
Kusch, the NCHA's leading scorer, improved her total to 17 points on the season and also took over the team lead in goals with 10.
The Green Knights outshot the Bulldogs, 28-19. Brittany Zeches held Adrian in the game and made keys saves when called upon, especially in the first period when the Bulldogs were outshot 10-3.
Both teams go at it again at 3 p.m. tomorrow at Resch Olympic Arena.
