Men's NCAA Ice Hockey

Bulldogs Pummel Concordia 9-2

Box Score

ADRIAN, Mich. - The men's hockey team won for the third time in a row on Friday night (Feb. 10) with a 9-2 triumph over visiting Concordia (Wis.) after jumping out to a 5-1 lead after the first period. The Bulldogs improved to 16-5-1 overall and 14-2-1 in the MCHA.

Chris Stansik got the ball rolling at the 3:47 mark of the first period with his fifth goal of the season with assists from Dan Barczuk and Lukas Ciotti. That just opened the floodgates for Adrian as they scored four more goals in the next nine-plus minutes to take a commanding four-goal lead after 20 minutes.

Bradley Lukasz scored his first goal of the season for Concordia at 4:59 but that only fueled the Bulldogs who closed the period with four straight goals. Andrew Dovey broke a 16-game goal less streak at 6:07 unassisted and then Barczuk followed with his eighth of the year at 8:23. Justin Basso scored his seventh of the campaign at 11:19 and Duston Hebebrand scored at 13:00 for his fourth of the season. All five first period goals came at even strength 5-on-5.

Jordan Watts increased the lead to 6-1 on the power play at 17:13 of the second period on a shot between the circles with assists from Zach Graham and Stansik. Cole Weiser made a small dent into the deficit at 18:24 off a faceoff from the right wing for his third goal of the season.

Adrian then added three straight goals in the third period. Ciotti's sixth made it 7-2 at 12:33 and then Dovey's second of the night and fourth of the season at 14:50 on a 4-on-4 situation made it 8-1. Josh Cousineau closed out the scoring at 18:59 for his eighth tally of the year. Ryan Gieseler assisted on the last two goals for the Bulldogs.

Scott Shackell made 11 saves in 36:15 of ice time to get the win improving to 11-2-1. James Hamby played the final 23:45 after Shackell was shaken up after a goaltending interference penalty. Hamby stopped nine shots including seven in the third period. Adrian went 1-of-2 on the power play and Concordia was limited to 0-of-5. The Bulldogs made short work of starting goaltender Josh Lehr. Lehr gave up four goals on the first eight shots of the night. The two teams will play tomorrow at 3:00 PM to conclude the weekend series. Adrian remains two points ahead in the division standings over MSOE after the Raiders defeated Lake Forest 4-0 this evening. After tomorrow, the Bulldogs will conclude the regular season with a two-game set at Finlandia next weekend.
