Cousineau Continues Hot Streak in 5-1 Win over Concordia (Wis.)

Box Score

ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian College men's hockey team inched a little closer to their fifth straight Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association regular season title with a 5-1 win over Concordia (Wis.) on Saturday at Arrington Ice Arena. Sophomore forward Josh Cousineau was the number one star on Senior Day as he tallied two goals and an assist against the Falcons (2-18-3, 2-14-2). Cousineau has been on a hot streak with six goals and four assists in the last four games for the Bulldogs.

Prior to the game, Adrian introduced its 2012 senior class which includes defenseman Riley Hughes, forward Blake Barkwell, forward Jordan Watts and defenseman Chris Stansik. Stansik is the most experienced member of the class playing in his 108th career game today. Stansik recorded an assist on the day and now has 131 career points.

Cousineau scored the first goal at 16:09 with assists from Justin Basso and Grant Telfer. It was Cousineau's ninth goal of the season. Concordia tied the game at 1-1 at the 1:54 mark of the second period. Dan Shilts stole the puck and fired it past goaltender James Hamby unassisted at even strength.

Concordia kept it close until midway through the second when junior Andrew Dovey scored the game-winner on a hard charge at the net with assists from Shelby Gray and Duston Hebebrand. Cousineau's second of the game at 13:51 came from Lukas Ciotti and made it 3-1.

Ciotti's seventh goal of the season at 14:25 from Stansik and Cousineau put the game out of reach. Zach Wilson put the finishing touches on the win with his fourth goal of the season at 1:09 of the third period. Hamby made 26 saves in net for the Bulldogs and improved to 6-3 on the season. Josh Lehr made 45 saves for the Falcons after getting pulled for allowing four goals on eight shots the night before. Both teams combined to go 0-for-9 on the power play as Concordia had six of those chances.

With the win, Adrian needs two more wins this upcoming weekend at Finlandia to secure another MCHA regular season title and number one seed in the Harris Cup playoffs.
