Box Score

HOLLAND, Mich. - The women's basketball team wrapped up the 2011-12 season with a 55-49 road loss at Hope College on Saturday, Feb. 18 at DeVos Fieldhouse in front of 2,035 fans. The Bulldogs were looking to win against the Flying Dutch for the first time since 1998, but fell short in a gritty effort.

The Bulldogs finish the season with a 11-13 overall record and placed fifth in the MIAA standings one spot out of the MIAA Tournament with a 6-10 conference mark. The team made a strong final push winning five of their last seven contests.

Hope started the game on an 8-3 run in the first 4:29 after a Courtney Kust jumper. Adrian then went on a 10-0 run to take a 13-8 lead. Casey Fougerousse capped the run with back-to-back triples with 11:59 left in the opening half. The Bulldogs increased their lead to 15-8 at the 9:05 mark after a Katie Ross jumper.

Hope came back with an 11-0 run to regain a 19-15 lead with 4:11 to go in the first half. Liz Ellis scored four points in the run and it was capped by a free throw by Ashley Bauman. The Bulldogs trailed 23-19 at the break and scored 11 of their points off the bench.

Lauren Rhoads and Nicole Boggs nailed three-pointers to open the second half as Adrian led 25-23 and then LaQwana Dockery hit a jumper to increase the lead to 27-23 in the first 2:37 of the latter half. The game of runs continued as Hope scored the game's next nine points to lead 32-27 with 14:25 to play in the contest. That run proved to be the biggest difference as the Bulldogs could not get any closer than four points for the rest of the contest.

Adrian cut the lead to 45-41 with 4:26 remaining after a Rhoads triple but Ellis answered with a layup with 3:34 to play. Dockery made a pair at the foul line on Adrian's next possession but Ellis answered again with a layup with 2:37 to go. Dockery hit a jumper to cut the lead to 49-45 with 1:38 remaining. Hope scored four straight points after that point to increase their lead to 53-45 with 35 seconds left.
