Women's Bowling

Bulldogs Finish 10th at Regionals

The Adrian College women's bowling team finished their season coming in 10th place out of 15 teams in the Intercollegiate Team Championships Sectional Qualifier held in Allentown, Pa.

They faced off against some very strong teams including five teams that all went to nationals last year. The cut to make it to nationals would be the highest of all the four sectionals needing a 192.45 average over 64 baker games to qualify. The team shot pretty consistent scores throughout the first three blocks shooting 2,771, 2,734, and a 2,736 for an average of 171 over 48 baker games, which is one pin better than their season average. The team struggled their last set and ended up averaging a 169.4 for the tournament. Despite not qualifying for nationals the team shot their highest baker game on the season shooting a 242 game in the first block of qualifying.

Five members of the team were also recognized for their superior performance in the classroom and were named Academic All-Americans by The National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association for having a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Those honored were junior Janelle Post and sophomore Chelsea Essenmacher whom have both made the list every year along with three freshmen Autumn Folts, Katie Harms and Nicole Loomis

Sophomore Chelsea Essenmacher's season will continue as she looks to win a national singles title competing against 15 other girls in Lincoln, Nebraska. USBC will be live streaming all of the qualifying matches on April 17 at BowlTV and then the finals will be taped on April 21. For the first time in the history of the event, the USBC Intercollegiate Singles Championships will be televised on CBS Sports Network. They will air the show, which will be shown in high definition for the first time, over a four-week period each Friday at 10 p.m. eastern starting May 4.
