Box Score LAKE FOREST, IL. – The women's hockey team (14-4, 9-4) entered the third period tied, but couldn't get the go-ahead goal and fell to Lake Forest (8-2-4, 5-1-4), 3-1, Saturday night at Alumni Memorial Rink in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association action. It was Lake Forest's fundraising game for cancer research and awarenes as both teams were playing for a cure.
The Foresters got two third-period goals- with the latter goal coming on the power play with just 73 ticks remaining- to remain the only NCHA team with just a lone loss on the season. Winning percentage-wise, they rank second in the conference.
Lake Forest took a 1-0 lead late in the second period on Maeve Connelly's goal, but the Bulldogs responded to tie the game with just 38 seconds left in the middle frame.
Hannah McGowan netted her sixth goal of the year from Sarah Connelly. The Foresters would take a penalty before the period ended but the Bulldogs could not capitalize as the third period began.
Lake Forest's Michelle Greeneway would net the game winner about eight minutes into the third period, before a late power-play goal would ice the game for the Foresters.
Both teams had 33 shots, and Adrian netminder Brittany Zeches finished the night with 30 saves- most of which came in the first period when the Bulldogs played shorthanded nearly half the period.
Three Adrian players would account for about half of all the Bulldogs' shots. Courtney Millar had six shots, while Alix Vallee and McGowan would add five apiece.
Adrian will have a chance to avenge the loss tomorrow afternoon as these same two teams meet again at 3:30 p.m. (ET).
