COLUMBUS, Ohio - The women's bowling team competed in the Buckeye Baker Classic in Columbus, Ohio this weekend against 10 other teams. In their third block, the team shot their highest baker game of the season shooting a 240 game and an 801 for four games. That big block propelled them from fifth to first place and they followed it up with another solid block shooting a 727 with a 231 game. In a very competitive tournament, the team had one bad block and it would drop them down to sixth place after day one of the tournament.
The team remained confident knowing they still had 12 more games to bowl on Sunday before they cut to the top eight teams for the championship bracket. Adrian made a move early shooting a 189, 200, 224 and 197 for an 810 which was their best block of the tournament. This moved the team all the way up to second with eight games to go. The team shot two more solid sets and would enter the championship bracket as the #3 seed and would receive third place power points for the tournament.
In the first round of the championship bracket, Adrian would face the sixth-seed which happened to be the sixth ranked team in the nation in Wright State University. Both teams struggled in the opening game of the best-of-three baker game match with Wright State taking the first game 151-142. Adrian looked to rebound in game two, but a bad break in the tenth opened the door for Wright State and gave them a chance to strike out for the win. Their anchor capitalized and got the win shooting a 191 to Adrian's 180. Adrian would be eliminated with three other teams to tie for fifth place for the tournament.
"Despite the early exit, the team bowled great all weekend and only trailed the first place team by 48 pins," said head coach Jody Fetterhoff. "For 36 games of qualifying we were ahead of two teams ranked #6 and #11 in the nation so I'm very happy with how the team performed this weekend. We are currently ranked 29th in the nation, so we should move up a couple spots after this tournament."
The team's next tournament is their last conference event before the conference championship and will be held at Super Bowl Lanes in Canton, Michigan.
