BEAVERCREEK, Ohio - The women's bowling team opened up their season this past weekend competing against 22 other teams in the Orange & Black Classic. The first day of competition consisted of six team games in which the team shot a total of 5,385. Adrian placed four bowlers in the top 50. Junior Nicole Loomis led the way finishing in 21st place with an average of 192. Sophomores Taylor Ouellette and Kate Gladstone finished 25th and 33rd with averages of 188.17 and 181.83. Junior Katie Harms came in 41st averaging 177.67 for the day. After day one of competition the team was in 10th place. The team was 187 pins out of the cut to make the top eight match play finals with only 16 baker games to go.
Adrian got off to a great start on Sunday shooting a 1,494 for the first eight games trying to close the gap. Knowing they needed a big finish to make the top eight the team fired off a 211, 234, 248 and a 193 to take a 20-pin lead over Alma heading into the last four baker games. Both teams finished strong, but Alma shot an 810 over Adrian's 764. The team would end up ninth out of 23 teams improving upon last year's 10th place finish.
The team shot their highest team game ever with a 1,011 in game five and then on day two they broke two baker game records shooting a baker set of 693 and averaging a 196.5 for the entire baker portion of the tournament. Their baker total of 3,144 was the third highest total shot at the tournament trailing only the tournament's first and second place teams.
"We had one bad team game in day one which ultimately cost us a top five finish," said head coach Jody Fetterhoff. "Overall though it was a great first tournament for us. We ended up breaking three program records and bowled 435 pins better than last year, which is pretty remarkable considering we only had three days to practice together before our first tournament."
