DAYTON, Ohio - The Adrian College women's bowling team had another strong showing as they finished seventh out of 19 teams in the Raider Classic this past weekend. The team continued to establish themselves as they broke four more program records throughout the tournament. Adrian broke the team game record which they set during the first tournament this season in the very first game of the tournament shooting a 1,020. However, that record didn't last long as they fired off a 1,087 the very next game. The team cooled off a bit in the third game, but finished the day on a good note with solid games of 978 and a 992. The team broke another program record as they would average a 195.64 for the team game portion of the tournament. After day one the team was in fifth place with 20 baker games to be bowled on Sunday.
On Sunday the team got off to another great start as they took down another team record when they fired off a 258 in their second baker game. Three solid 10 pins kept the team from perfection. They would go on to average a 191.5 for the 20 baker games but dropped to finish seventh for the tournament.
"This team continues to improve each week and it really showed as they averaged almost 20 pins per game higher than we did the week before on this same pattern," said head coach Jody Fetterhoff. "We weren't thrilled when we heard we would have to bowl on Paris again, which is a pattern from the World Tenpin Bowling Association. Paris is a very high scoring pattern and we struggled with carry last Sunday. However, I will give this team credit as they were focused in practice and did so much better on it the second time around."
Junior Nicole Loomis turned in another great performance as she finished 10th out of 161 bowlers averaging a 210.6 for the day. Sophomore Taylor Ouellette and senior Chelsea Essenmacher also had a good day as Ouellette averaged a 211.5 for four games while Essenmacher finished 28th with an average of 198.2.
The team's next tournament will be hosting the AC Open as the Bulldogs will welcome seven other women's teams and 16 men's teams to Lenawee Recreation Lanes on Saturday starting at 11 a.m.
