Nine Bulldogs score in 12-1 win over Buffalo St.

Box Score

BUFFALO, N.Y.- The Bulldogs capped their weekend at a perfect 3-0 and have improved their overall record to 4-1 after a 12-1 thrashing of non-conference opponent Buffalo State. Nine different Bulldogs scored and Adrian out shot Buffalo St. 67-6 as they breezed to their first non-conference win of the 2013-14 season.

Adrian scored eight goals in the first period including two goals in the first 1:10 of the game by Hannah McGowan and Kelsey Kusch. The scoring became contagious after this fast start as Kristin Lewicki tallied two goals, and Danielle Smith added a power play goal to bring the lead to 5-0 with seven minutes remaining in the first period. The period did not end before Abby Kibler, Emily Duncan, and Kaylyn Schroka each found the back of the net as Adrian eased into the first intermission with at 8-0 lead. The Bulldogs only allowed one shot during the first period while they compiled 24 of their own.

The second period saw more Bulldog dominance as Adrian scored three more goals, and held the Bengals scoreless again as they fired 23 more shots to just two from Buffalo St. Kelsey Kusch scored her second of the game at the 8:05 mark to increase the Bulldog lead to 9-0. Adrian added two more goals in the final minute of the period on a Lexie Tzafaroglou power play goal, and an even strength goal by Sarah Shureb. This put the Adrian lead at 11-0 heading into the second intermission.

The Bulldogs shutout was spoiled in the third period when Buffalo State slipped one past goaltender Brooke Gibson at the 8:27 mark of the final period on an unassisted goal. The Bulldogs did not hear the final horn sound before they put one more in the net as Abby Kibler scored her second of the game to extend the Adrian lead to 11 goals once again.

16 different Bulldogs tallied assists including three from senior defenseman Alix Vallee. Devyn Fitzhenry, Courtney Tyll, Kelsey Kusch, Danielle Smith, and Audrey Noles each totaled two assists as Adrian cruised to their second road victory of the season.

Brooke Gibson made the start in the net for Adrian and played all 60 minutes as she made five stops on the way to recording her first career victory as an Adrian College Bulldog.

The Bulldogs will play again November 17 at St. Olaf at 3 p.m.
