The women's bowling team competed in their first two conference events this past weekend in Wickliffe, Ohio. The team bowled amazing during the first portion of the tournament which consisted of five team games. Their five-game total of 4,450 put them up 70 pins over second place and the third-ranked team in the nation, Wright State University. With 15 baker games to go, the team knew they had to finish strong to stay in the lead but they struggled as the lanes broke down and finished fourth out of 12 teams.
Junior Nicole Loomis averaged a 195.2 for the day and became the first bowler in program history to win a tournament. Sophomore Kate Gladstone joined Loomis on the All-Tournament Team as she finished fifth. Adrian had two other bowlers finish in the top 20 with sophomore Taylor Ouellette finishing 13th and freshman Brittney Antonelli took 19th.
"The team tackled the fresh with ease and it showed as they led almost from the start of the team game portion. With this only being our second tournament of the season we weren't quick enough making adjustments, so that's something we will get better at as they bowl more tournaments," said head coach Jody Fetterhoff."
The team would finish seventh out the 12 teams on Sunday. Sunday's pattern was very different than Saturday's pattern and the team did not have as good of a look as they did on Saturday. It was a higher scoring pattern and the team struggled with carry all day. Gladstone and Katie Pakkala led the way for Adrian finishing 34th and 35th with averages of 179.
"Despite not finishing as high as we would have liked on Sunday it was still a good weekend. Everyone's averages are well above their averages from last year, so the team is off to a great start." said Fetterhoff.
