Box Score ADRIAN, Mich. – The regular season finale did not go the way of the 'Dogs on Saturday as visiting Albion College defeated Adrian College, 13-0, at Docking Stadium on Senior Day. The Bulldogs finish the season 6-4 overall and 3-3 in the MIAA. Albion claimed at least a share of the MIAA title improving to 7-2 overall and 5-0 in the MIAA. The Britons travel to Hope (4-1 MIAA) next week to determine the conference representative in the NCAA playoffs.
One key factor in the ball game was each team's success offensively in the red zone. Albion went 2-for-3 with a pair of field goals in a nasty wind, while Adrian went 0-for-3. The Britons and Bulldogs ran exactly 79 offensive plays with Albion outgaining Adrian by a 368-303 margin. Adrian had struggled on third and fourth down most of the season and that trend continued going 6-of-18 on third down and 3-of-7 on fourth down.
Cody Lehman booted a pair of field goals for Albion and Darrin Williams raced for a 47-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter. Lehman made a 28-yarder with 15 seconds left in the first half to give Albion a 3-0 lead. He then connected on a 27-yarder with 11:20 left in the third quarter. The Albion touchdown by Williams came right after it looked like Adrian might gain some momentum.
Senior linebacker Deontae Bridgeman intercepted Dominic Bona in the end zone and returned it 34 yards on the second to last play of the third. Adrian's drive stalled at their own 48-yard line and a punt put the ball at Albion's 17-yard line. Albion went three-and-out on their next drive and a bad punt gave the Bulldogs the ball at Albion's 34-yard line. The Bulldogs had their best field position of the game but freshman quarterback Stephen Milarch, in his first start, got intercepted on fourth-and-five at the Albion 23-yard line. Bona found Cody Crawford on a 29-yard completion after a missed tackle to the Adrian 48-yard line. Williams carried for one yard on the next play and then on the third play of the drive took it to the house over left end untouched.
The Bulldogs forced a fumble with 2:57 remaining for one last chance but their drive stalled at Albion's six-yard line after Aaron Tenney's pass into the end zone for Nathan Hartline was slapped away by Mike Vandermus. Damon Brown rushed for a team-high 84 yards in his final game. Milarch went 13-for-24 passing for 140 yards and was sacked twice. Bona completed 23-for-35 passes for 234 yards and was sacked three times. Tommy First led Adrian with a career-high 11 tackles and two tackles for loss. Bridgeman made 10 tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss with a forced fumble in his final game.
