Men's NCAA Ice Hockey

Bulldogs hold on for 6-5 win against Falcons

Box Score

MEQUON, Wis. - The men's hockey team (19-1-3, 15-0-3) extended their nation-leading unbeaten streak to 13 games after Justin Basso broke a 5-5 tie late in the third period to beat Concordia University (6-17, 6-12), 6-5, at the Ozaukee Ice Center on Saturday.

The No. 7-ranked Bulldogs were led by Josh Cousineau's four-point night.

The teams traded power-play goals in the first period after Josh Ranalli opened the scoring for the Bulldogs.

Adrian would go up 3-1 after two periods compliments of Cousineau's ninth at 5:03 of the second and 10th on the power play at 18:13.

The third period produced seven goals, but the Bulldogs would get the last one- and that one would decide the contest.

Shelby Gray and Kevin Balas would stake Adrian to a 5-1 about two minutes into the third before four Falcon goals would tie the contest.

With just 1:15 left, Basso would net his sixth of the season and the game winner from Grant Telfer.

Gray and Ranalli would join Cousineau with multiple-points on the day with Gray leading the team in shots with six.

Adrian goaltender James Hamby would remain undefeated for the season in a dozen games and pick up the win.

The potent Bulldog power play would finish 2-for-4, and remain No. 1 nationally at 32.5 percent. It has also kept the Bulldogs as the nation's leading scoring offense averaging over five goals a game. Adrian has the fewest loses of any Division III team.

The Bulldogs close out the regular season next weekend with a pair of home games against Finlandia before awaiting their Harris Cup opponent March 1st. Adrian will play Friday at 7 p.m. and then again Saturday at 3 p.m.
