Men's Soccer

Minshall and Giantsopoulous Lead Bulldogs Past Alma College

Box Score

ALMA, Mich. - Adrian College men's soccer improved to 4-2-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play with a 2-1 overtime win at Alma College on Wednesday afternoon. This was a victory that Coach Chris LeFevre called "positive" knowing that in the MIAA getting the win is all that matters.

The Bulldogs knew this victory was important to have, and they had to overcome an Alma squad that gave Adrian College a dog fight. After dropping into a 1-0 deficit just six minutes into play, the Bulldogs remained focused. This focus started on the back end with sophomore goalkeeper Niko Giantsopoulous who shook off an early goal by the Scots to save the remaining nine shots that Alma was able to put on the net. Junior forward Nick Minshall stepped up for the offense by scoring both Adrian College goals as the Bulldogs went on to grind out this tough road win where goals were at a premium. Minshall's first goal came in the 25th minute on a left wing shot that was assisted from Marcus Phipps. This goal tied the game for the next 70 minutes of play until Minshall scored his 10th goal of the season in game-winning fashion. This overtime winner was assisted by Kaheem Christopher that placed Minshall straight down the middle and allowed him to send the Bulldogs home with the win.

LeFevre was pleased with the win, but is also staying focused on the big picture, "In the MIAA, any road win is positive. We were outworked in the second half, but we grinded it out and scored a timely goal. Niko Giantsopoulous and Nick Minshall played great today, big performances from them. Sometimes you have to win ugly and fortunately for us we did and got the three points. We have to go back to work tomorrow because we must be better for Saturday".

Saturday is the Bulldogs' next game which will be a home match against Calvin College at 2:30 p.m. The Bulldogs will be playing just their third home match of the season and the first since Aug. 31.
