Adrian Plays Spirited Defense in Loss at #2 Hope

HOLLAND, Mich. – The women's basketball team had the tough task of trying to stop second-ranked Hope College inside DeVos Fieldhouse on Saturday. The Flying Dutch posted their lowest MIAA total so far this season but still won the contest 71-52 against the Bulldogs. Hope upped their record to 14-0 (6-0) while the Bulldogs are now 7-7 (3-3).

Hope shot 36.6 percent for the game and were just 2-of-10 from behind the arc. Adrian shot 30.9 percent from the floor and were 4-of-16 from three-point land. The Flying Dutch defense was particularly good in the first half holding Adrian to 25 percent shooting to build a 40-17 lead. The Bulldogs could not gain a lead in the contest and fell behind 6-0 to start the game. Hope took their first double-digit lead at 21-10 with 10:07 left in the opening half and Adrian could not get the deficit less than double-digits for the remainder of the game.

Adrian outscored Hope, 35-31, in the second half and shot 37 percent from the floor while also going 11-of-13 from the charity stripe. Hope held a substantial advantage in a few categories including points in the paint (36-20), second chance points (21-6) and bench points (28-14). The Bulldog offense came from seniors LaQwana Dockery and Lauren Rhoads. Dockery scored 16 points and was 6-of-7 at the foul line. Rhoads added 12 points and made 2-of-3 from behind the arc.
