Shureb Scores Two as Bulldogs Cruise to 5-0 Win at Finlandia

HANCOCK, Mich. – The Bulldogs took on Finlandia University Friday night for the first time in the 2013-14 season. Adrian jumped out to a two-goal first period lead and went on to hold the Lions scoreless as they eased to victory, 5-0. This win is Adrian's ninth win in a row and advances them to 15-3 on the season and 8-3 in the NCHA.

The first period was all Bulldogs as Adrian would outshoot Finlandia 14-1 for the period and cruise to a 2-0 lead after the first intermission. The Bulldogs found the back of the net for the first time with 2:29 remaining as Michelle Jones (3) scored from Lauren Turner and Sydney Dobbin.  Adrian followed this goal with their second of the game with just 56 seconds remaining in the period as Sarah Shureb (5) scored on helpers from Lexie Tzafaroglou and Audrey Noles.

The second period was once again all Bulldogs as Adrian put 18 shots on goal to just six from the Lions. This offensive dominance led to another two-goal period of the Bulldogs as they advanced their lead to four heading into the second intermission. The Bulldogs advanced their lead to three just 2:10 into the period on a goal from Kaylyn Schroka (5) on assists from Shureb and Noles. Adrian continued this offensive surge throughout the period and upped the lead to 4-0 with 2:29 remaining in the period. The goal came from Noles (2) from Hannah McGowan and Kelsey Kusch.

The final period saw the Lions even out the gameplay as they tied the Bulldogs in shots at nine. Adrian did score a goal and once again held Finlandia scoreless as they sealed their victory with a 5-0 score. The Bulldogs finished their scoring as Shureb (6) scored her second of the game on an assist from Tzafaroglou at the 17:14 mark.

Jade Walsh made the start between the pipes for the Bulldogs and stopped all 16 shots that she faced in rout to her second shutout of 2013-14 and a record of 11-2.

These same two teams will face off again tomorrow at 2 p.m.
