COLUMBUS, Ohio - The women's bowling team traveled to Columbus, Ohio to compete against nine other teams in the Buckeye Baker Classic. They would compete on a very difficult flat pattern, so the scores were low across the board. After 24 baker games on Saturday, the team stood in fourth place with 12 baker games to be bowled on Sunday before the cut to top eight for the championship bracket. While the team scored a little better Sunday, they weren't able to move up so they were seeded fourth and would face host team the #5 seed Ohio State.
Since the team was the higher seed they got to select lane choice to start the best two out of three baker game match. Luckily the team had finished qualifying on the same pair and had ended with a 215 game on the left lane so they chose to start there. That decision paid off as Adrian would win the first game 184-165. Both teams struggle in the second game but Adrian was able to mark in the tenth winning 143-123. With the win Adrian advanced to the second round to take on the #1 seed Victory University, ranked 15th in the nation.
Adrian got hot and never looked back firing off a 213 to win game one. They continued to bowl well in game two and with some clutch strikes in the back half they clinched the win moving Adrian into the championship match to face the #2 seed Urbana University, ranked 16th in the nation.
The team cooled off a bit in the championship match and Urbana capitalized winning the first game 193-163. In the second game, Urbana struck early to defeat Adrian 210-160.
"It was great to see the team so fired up in match play. When teams get hot like that it gets in your head, so we were just trying to stay loud and throw good shots. It carried us through the first two matches and to knock out the tournament leader and finish second gives us a lot of confidence heading into our final AHIBC Conference tournament and championships next weekend in Canton," said head coach Jody Fetterhoff.
