Box Score MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Bulldogs finished their weekend sweep of Augsburg in dominating fashion as Adrian opened up with a four-goal first period. The Auggies could not overcome this consistent offensive presence put on by the Bulldogs as Adrian cruised to a 8-1 victory and advanced to 9-3 on the season.
The Bulldogs opened with a four-goal first period as Hannah McGowan, Alix Vallee, and Devyn Fitzhenry each scored a power play goal within the first 13 minutes of the game. Kristin Lewicki then scored a shorthanded goal with 2:13 remaining in the period as the Bulldogs finished the first 20 minutes with a 4-0 lead.
The second period was highlighted by more Bulldog domination as Fitzhenry scored her second of the game and Kelsey Kusch scored on another power play chance in the first five minutes of the period to take the Adrian lead to six. The Bulldogs held this lead for the remainder of the period as they fired 10 shots on net to just seven from Augsburg.
Adrian started the third period by converting on yet another power play opportunity 4:17 into the period as Danielle Smith scored her third power play goal of the weekend. Kush then scored her second with the sixth power play goal of the game. Augsburg managed to tally one goal to end the Adrian shutout as the game finished with a 8-1 score in favor of the Bulldogs.
Courtney Millar and Alix Valee each compiled three assists and Kelsey Kusch finished with two. Devyn Fitzhenry, Danielle Smith, Hannah McGowan, Michelle Jones, Lauren Turner, and Kristin Lewicki each added an assist.
Jade Walsh made the start in the net for Adrian and stopped all 13 shots that she faced. Brooke Gibson also saw action in the net and made 11 saves.
The Bulldogs scored a record six power play goals (6-11) and the most with a skater advantage since January 15, 2012 when Adrian scored four against Concordia (Wis.).
The Adrian women's hockey team will see action again January 7 when they host Chatham at 7 p.m.
