ADRIAN, Mich. – The Bulldogs men's basketball team met their first MIAA foe of 2013-14 Thursday night and the result was an overtime slugfest that ended with Olivet College getting the better of Adrian, 88-83. This loss starts the Bulldogs off at 0-1 in the MIAA and drops their season record 4-8.

The first half saw the Bulldogs control the lead and open up a seven point margin with 8:38 left. The Comets immediately responded to this deficit with a 10-2 run over the next 4:34 of the game to take the lead, 27-26. Three ties and two lead changes followed and the teams remained in a 31-31 deadlock with a half to play.

The first three minutes of the second half continued the close play until the 16:54 mark when Adrian took the 39-38. The Bulldogs carried this lead for the next 13:37 of the game before the Comets hit a clutch three point shot to tie the game at 66-66. This lead would change once more and the score would remained tied twice more as the teams could not decide a winner through 40 minutes and the game headed to overtime.

Olivet scored the first two points of the overtime period and the Bulldogs were never able to regain the lead as the Comets outscored Adrian 17-12 in the extra five minutes and took the game, 88-83.

Ben Rodak led the Bulldogs with 23 points six rebounds and four assists. Curtis Gordon scored 19 points and added four assists. Rickey Jackson tallied 14 points and Earl Swift contributed 12 points.

Adrian plays Trine University Saturday, January 11 when they travel to Angola, Ind. for a 3 p.m. tipoff.
